Vaatu is a major antagonist in the Nickelodeon series, The Legend of Korra. An extremely powerful spirit, Vaatu is a major player in the third Disney Vs Non Disney Villains War, a secondary player in the Non Disney Villains Tournament and a main player in the second Cartoon Villains War.

Dominion over the Spiritual Realm[]
Ruling over the spiritual realm, Vaatu gets a visit from the previous deceased demon, Shendu. However, before he could judge him, Vaatu gets a sudden sense of Mirage and Mumm-Ra's battle, during the final events of the previous war. Outraged of interfering in his dominion, Vaatu sets off to confront the Evil Incarnate himself. At his arrival, Vaatu duels Mirage, for dominion over the spiritual world. Vaatu deflects most of Mirage's blasts, before he could grab her in his grip. However, a dangerous enemy, lurking in the shadows, frees Mirage from Vaatu's grip, before he and Mirage would escape from the spiritual world, much to Vaatu's dismay. To Vaatu's surprise, the enemy is revealed to be Mirage's former enemy, Mumm-Ra.

After possessing Valmont throughout most of the war, Vaatu finally emerges in the midst of a fight between Valmont and Shendu. When Shendu exorcises Valmont of his possessor, Vaatu angrily fights the demon sorcerer. He blows a hole through Shendu's chest, but the dragon manages to recover quickly, Shendu then launches a fire blast on Vaatu, turning his entire body into ash.

Imprisoned by the Old Gods[]
A thousand eons ago, towards the end of the Age Of Monsters, the universe had erupted into chaos. With the three most powerful demon lords (the Lich, Aku, and Trigon) all destroyed, a power vacuum was left in their place. One particularly powerful spirit rose up to fill it: the spirit of darkness known as Vaatu. However, several other godlike beings, led by Oberon and Zeus, joined forces in order to resist the dark spirit's reign. Together, the group led a combined assault on Vaatu. A brutal battle ensued, as Oberon and his forces found that, even with their combined power, they were still unable to destroy Vaatu. In a final desperate attempt, the gods succeeded in using their full strength to imprison Vaatu, where they hoped he would remain forever. With Vaatu gone, the Old Gods (as they would later be known) became the undisputed rulers of the cosmos. During their eons-long reign, they managed to bring order to the universe, eventually leading to the birth of humanity.
