Professor Ned Brainard

Professor Ned Brainard as he appears from the 1961 Disney adaptation of the Absent-Minded Professor.

Professor Ned Brainard is the titular protagonist in Samuel W. Taylor's book The Absent-Minded Professor; the book was adapted by Disney as a film in 1967 and as a remake in 1997. An eccentric college professor operating in Medfield College, Ned lives to his title as an absent-minded professor, thriving in builting new inventions including the gravity-defying substance Flubber, most of which end up catastrophic and disastrous. In his first adventure, he was conflicted in trying to save his college, which was under financial pressure and debt, with only Flubber as his trump card, all the while dealing with the lucrative Alonzo Hawk, who wanted to seize Ned's creation for profit. Eventually, Ned's justice prevailed, demonstrating the merits of his creation to the public, earning him fame and money to restore his college.

The absent-minded professor also appears in Disney Heroes vs. Villains, with his likeness from the 1967 film being used to represent his involvement in the series, as one of the eccentric scientists and inventors who used their abilities and inventions to revolutionize the world in the live-action universe, prior to the events of the war. It is unknown if he will become involved in the conflict against the forces of destruction.
