The Newsies

The Newsies are the eponymous heroes of the 1992 Disney's musical film Newsies. Based on the story of the Newsboys during the strike of 1899, the Newsies are homeless and orphaned boys selling newspapers in New York City. Led by Jack "Cowboy" Kelly, the Newsies long for a better life, as well as dreaming to become financially stable through their hard work. Gaining the support of other non-union child workers to oppose the newspaper publisher Joseph Pultitzer, the Delancey brothers, and the local authorities, the Newsies found a way to express their unpaid services through the headlines of the newspapers. Yet, when they found that the city was depended on child labor, the Newsies resorted in conveying their messages throughout the American continent, with Governor Theodore Roosevelt (future President of the United States) exposing the mistreatment of children to the public, allowing more more child laborers to join the strike, forcing Pulitzer to comply with their demands. Victorious, they celebrate the victory with Jack Kelly and his friends, as they moved forward for a better future.

The Newsies also appear in the second Disney Heroes vs. Villains as among the characters who became involved in the conflict between the heroes and the villains, although it is unknown what role they will partake.
