Count Rugen, hired by the villainous Queen Bavmorda, proposes a diplomatic solution to the Red Queen; should Bavmorda have control of Wonderland, the Red Queen may remain alive. Enraged at the thought of losing the crown, the Red Queen tasks her knave, Stayne, with eliminating Rugen. He succeeds.
