Hogarth Hughes is the secondary protagonist of the animated movie The Iron Giant, based on the novel The Iron Man. Named after the eponymous novelist Ted Hughes, Hogarth is a genius youth, yet an unsociable character compared to his environment. He was the first person to discover the existence of the Iron Giant, a giant robot originally designed to bring chaos and destruction. He acts as a tutor to the Giant, explaining to him the balance between good and evil. Though he managed to outwit the authorities led by Kent Mansley and General Rogard, Hogarth has yet enough experience to deal with powerful foes like Emperor Zurg in the first Heroes vs. Villains; thus, he joins forces with the other inter-galactic heroes to stop the machinations of Zurg and his forces from taking over Earth.
