Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark (commonly known by his alter ego Iron Man) is a superhero who first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39, published by Marvel Comics; he also appears as one of the primary protagonists of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in the first MCU film Iron Man. An eccentric genius scientist and billionaire, Tony lived the life of a spoiled playboy before he was captured by terrorists while displaying his company's weapons in the Middle East. Learning he had a piece of shrapnel lodged in his heart that would eventually kill him, Tony worked with a fellow captive to build a mechanical suit of armor to escape and to keep his condition stable. Back home, Stark further developed his suit, adding weapons and other high-tech devices. He used the suit and successive versions to protect the world as Iron Man, vowing to undo the damage caused by the weapons he created. Commonly identified as one of the main leaders of the Avengers team, Tony has occasionally clashed with Steve Rogers, better known as Captain America, eventually leading to a "Civil War" within the team. Nonetheless, they put aside their differences when forces like Loki, Ultron, and Thanos threaten the universe. He appears as one of the main heroes in Disney vs. Comics, leading the hero forces into battle against the villains.
