Drax, also known by his nickname of Drax the Destroyer, is one of the primary protagonists of the comic series Guardians of the Galaxy published by Marvel Comics, first appearing in Invincible Iron Man #55; he also appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with the rest of the Guardians. Originally a human named Arthur Douglas in the comics, Drax is instead portrayed as an alien in the MCU; in both versions, his family was killed by the Mad Titan Thanos and he swore revenge against the conqueror. Imprisoned in the Kyln super-prison, Drax became uneasy allies with fellow criminals Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot. Together, they broke out of the Kyln and became embroiled in the quest to recover the Orb and keep it safe from Ronan's iron grip. To this day, Drax remains with his new teammates while on his mission to stop Thanos from spreading his influence across the universe.
He also appears as one of the supporting protagonists of Disney vs. Comics, traveling the stars and battling the forces of evil along with the other Guardians.
