Captain Steven "Steve" Grant Rogers (commonly known as Captain America) is a superhero and a main character in the Marvel Comics created by Stan Lee, first appearing in Captain America Comics #1; he also appears as one the primary protagonists of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in Captain America: The First Avenger. Formerly a US soldier during WWII, Steven underwent an experimental treatment to become an enhanced soldier in order to create the perfect image of a patriotic soldier against the Axis Powers; bearing the American flag motif, Steven utilizes a nearly indestructible shield that he throws as a projectile. Near the end of the war, he was trapped in ice while battling his archnemesis the Red Skull, and survived in suspended animation until he was revived in modern times. Although Captain America often struggles to maintain his ideals as a man out of his time, he remains a highly respected figure in his community, including the Avengers, which he served as the leader of the team. He appears in Disney vs. Comics as one of the field commanders of the hero forces against the villains.
